Christ Is Risen!

Christ is Risen! Χριστός ἀνέστη! Христос Воскресе! Hristos a înviat!

On Sunday, April 2/15, 2012, Orthodox Christians celebrated Holy Pascha, the Resurrection of Our Lord, God, and Saviour Jesus Christ, after His Passion and burial.

As is customary for the Orthodox Christians of Greenville, NC, we gathered for a service the weekend before; this year we worshiped on Saturday to commemorate the dual feasts of the Raising of Lazarus and the Annunciation (March 25/April 7) which this year coincided. We also had the pleasure of baptizing two more adults into the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Father Anastasios celebrated Palm Sunday in Raleigh, and also the Bridegroom Matins of Holy Week, and we gathered again here to observe Holy Thursday evening and Holy Friday evening. We had double the attendance on Holy Friday as we did last year, for the service of the Epitaphios!

On Saturday night, we gathered to prepare for Pascha, and began the service around 10:15 pm. At 11:00 pm we began the Anastasi (a little early by typical standards, but we have a lot of people driving from far away and we don't wish to end too late for reasons of safety). We had record attendance this year, truly a blessing from God and a consolation after so many struggles. While God is pleased when even two or three gather in His name, a growing parish is a sign that Grace is reaching further and further into the community and transforming more and more lives!

For the first time this year, we also celebrated the Agape Vespers and had a parish picnic. We invite you to come to the next service if you missed Holy Week and Pascha; remember, Pascha goes on for 40 days!

Let us end with a hymn from Paschal Matins which encompasses our Holy Faith:

This is the day of Resurrection Let us be radiant in the festival Let us embrace one another Let us call brothers, even those who hate us And forgive all things in the resurrection And therefore let us proclaim: Christ is risen from the dead By death He has trampled upon death and to those in the tombs He is bestowing Life!
